THE BOOTLEG BEATLES 12/8/2009 5:59:43 AM
Last night at London's Royal Albert Hall
The Royal Albert Hall was packed, seemed like no seats were empty, but I could not see right into the upper tier.
At 8pm the show started, just as I recalled the earlt Beatles concert of 1963, with a movie back projection. Only this one was taking you back into the sixties. Then The Bootleg Beatles kicked in. And they are good. They have been performing since the day The Beatles disbanded in 1969, 30 years. Well The Beatles were together for 7-8 years, the popularity of The Bootleg Beatles is because the music they wrote was so dam good. I sat there for the 2.5 hour show and had to admit I had never actually heard the real standeard of The Beatles music. The three concerts I went to in the 60's were almost without music, as the screams were so off the Richter scale. Yet I heard last night what blew me away. I was transported back to a time when music had a simplicity that made it great. Take a listen to John Lennons 'In My Life' outstanding. They had on stage a brass section and a string section, so the material from Rubber Soul and everything after was really created as intended. These guys may not be doing this for many years to come, if you get a chance go see them. The audience I was with was 50% at least below their 30's, and they loved it.
The Bootleg Beatles tour the world with their recreation of a concert that the real Beatles never gave, and for me that was a shame. I am sure that John and Paul had sorted their differences and were less than a year from agreeing to a comeback tour. But John was shot dead.
Last night was a great night, my 6th time seeing the band, and not my last.
