Low Arvie welcomes new arrivals 6/10/2010 12:52:43 PM
I am still in Warwick until Saturday wrestling with Michael and Tabitha. Its crunch time for them - will they go off into the sunset together or not? Will they finally say goodbye to the lake and hello to Paris or Rome? Tomorrow should provide the answer (I hope), although Morgan has just rung to say he will be golfing and that means I will be on dog duty at lunchtime.
Back at Low Arvie, Richard has welcomed some new arrivals to the farm. No, not Heather and Zoe's calves - no news on those yet - these are five Aberdeen Angus, one Limousin and one Belgian Blue. Yes, I know they are not Galloways, but, if you read 'Life with the Ladies of Low Arvie', you will see that we had a major calamity in 2008 which almost saw the end of the farm and left us short of numbers. Although we have 'grown' our cow numbers back to the proper level, it takes nine months to produce a new batch of calves and a further two years to bring them to selling age. Hence for the last year and this current year we are having to buy in some 'extras' to make up the shortfall. These boys have come to us straight from their birth farm and have not had to go through the market ring, which pleases me a great deal. I am not keen on the noise and bustle there and we never sell ours through the ring. Richard says they have settled in well and are currently grazing the grass in the front paddock. We keep them separate from our own stock for three weeks, to eliminate the risk of bringing disease into our herd.
It's Catherine and Morgan's fourth wedding anniversary today (see LwtLoLA for the story of their rather unusual wedding.) It seems incredible that that was four years ago. The weather today has been very different, cold and dull as opposed to the beautiful day it was four years ago. They have gone out to celebrate their life together and I am very happy to report that they are celebrating four years of idyllic bliss.
Morgan's father, step mother and step brother have just booked their tickets for a visit in late September. They live in Arizona (LwtLoLA and previous blogs) and it will be their first trip over here. Morgan's grandmother came over a year or two ago and they brought her up to Low Arvie for a visit. She was fascinated by the UK, especially our roundy rounds as she called them (roundabouts to us) and, like the American in LwtLoLA, with our waaalls, which have no cement to bind the stones together.
