The Princess Charlotte Augusta

In a previous blog I spoke about Broughty Ferry,where I
grew up.It is a place that Ireally only visit these days at
Christmas ,when its twilighty light, early darkness and
Christmas .trees give it a never never land feel.A place I
observe from a distance but lead my life else where.Not
far from where I once lived,next to the beach, at the
bottom of Victoria road ,just at the entrance to West Ferry
,a beautiful suburb of mansions ,now mostly flats ,and
picturesque lodges,yaught clubs and leafy streets,there
stands a plaque dedicated to the memory of the Princess
Charlotte Augusta ,once heir to the throne and daughter of
the Prince Regent,responsible for the restoration and
revival of interest in Scottish Highland culture.The
Princess Charlotte Augusta ,heavily pregnant left her
husbands home in Germany , at the insistance of the london
govern ment,,to give birth in london.The ship travelled
through wild, dangerous conditions and sailed into the
River Tay,for the shelter of its harbours.The boat anchored
in Broughty Fery,and the Princess already in labour,was
given shelter in a suitable house.She died in labour
giving birth to another heir to the throne a boy,alas
stillborn,Both are buried at Windsor.
