Sun,Techno and Beards

There is little sign of the great heatwave predicted by the
weathermen and now the papers say we are to expect gale force
winds.In the merry month of may it is dark rainy and dull as I
look out into the garden.It is indeed a bleak house.
Last night saw the second of the Eurovision finals.The BBC
have gone to town this year and have even created a new
radio station -BBC Radio 2 Eurovision- which is being
broadcast for the five days of the event.It is a brave move
by the BBC who have often derided the event and along with
a large section of the British media have largely sneered
at it.A reaction to what they consider to be beneath them,
whos musical imperialism should not be challanged.
At last nights semi final in Copenhagen there was a
selection of fairly good songs.The best in my opinion came
from from Austria,Israel, NOrway, Ireland,. Austrias
Conchita Wurst,well known in her native country,the alter
ego of former boy band member Tom Nieuwirth, a rather
glamourous lady who sports a beard , yet the song is not to
be laughed at.It is a classy big ballad and Conchitas
performance last night was stupendous.A few East European
countries objected very strongly to her paricipation and
called for her withdrawl.Ireland offered a folk pop number
by Kasy Smith and Cann linn,most pleasant while norway
offered a big folk power ballad .Israel s effort by Mei
Finegold a techno rock song had a fantastic beat and was
very well presented , she however failed to qualify to
the final as did Ireland .Malta,Norway,Austria,Poland,
(dressed in national costume),Finland,Belarus,Switzerland
Greece,Slovenia and Romania qaulified .A shocks ,a few
surprises.I t was also goodbye to Georgia ,a very unusual
number,Lithuania,Macedonia.The final awaits us on Saturday.
Outside , I THINK I can see a hint of sun!!
