Don't worry that children never listen to you; worry that they are always watching you. Anonymous Two weeks of rocking and feeding and changing and burping was exactly what I needed to soothe my soul and to realize anew the wonder and miracle of life.
Madeline was six weeks old when I arrived. During the hustle and bustle of her birth and her newborn weeks I had to absorb everything via high-speed technology from a distance of 1,260 miles. BTW: Thank you computer geeks around the world! I felt included thanks to you.
However, the feel of Maddie's skin against mine, her soft rhythmic breath on my shoulder, her fresh after-bath smell, her puckered lips as she took in nourishment and her deep, peaceful sleep. . . that was a momentous awakening.
When I hummed or sang nursery tunes from the musical pool in the recesses of my aging brain, my mind commenced flip-flopping between the past and the present.
The first time that soft fuzzy head turned in my direction and those dark serious eyes rested on mine. Oh my! As a mother of four and a grandmother of five, I found what was suddenly colliding with what is, and I climbed back onto the seesaw of life.
