MONOPOLY

On wednesday I attended an interview in Londons Oxford Street.
Unknown to me when I applied for the job ,it was a post inthe
same school I had often worked at over twenty five years ago.
The name of the establishment had changed and the staff were
all new. A totally different organisation but it was the same
place alright.How many memories passed through me as I
walked through its doors for the first time since 1987.
It seemed so much had changed,myself,almost unrecognisable
to the twenty something of then.Outlooks ,expectations,
assumptions of people now all so very different. Yet
there seemed to be other things that had not changed and
here I was again back at the start point ,back at go on the
monopoly board of london.I had not become a star or a
millionaire but had remained, like most, as I was, living in the
mundane and living the mediocre rather than La vida loca.
Oxford street as busy and indifferent today as it was then
and how nice it was in an over crowded unfriendly place
for a student from the language school to suddenly come up
to me in the street and just say "Hi" for London is a real
life monopoly set of advance to Mayfair and return to go.
