A squirrel on an autumn day.

The streets in my area look like a classic autumnal oil
painting.Rich in reds ,browns and yellows the streets are
carpeted in thousands of chestnuts ,acorns and leaves ,while
the huge gothic mansions are framed in the colours of autumn
by the oaks and elms that adorn their vast gardens and
gateways. The large squirrel population appears to form a
rather visible ethnic minority at the moment.The other day I
saw a small grey squirrel cross a quiet side street.It was
either a baby or it was in some way handicapped as it
seemed to have difficulty in moving correctly.It made its
way, to my horror onto the noisy busy road nearby.It was a
late afternoon rush hour and vehicles thundered past as the
tiny creature flinched and stepped back after each motor
went by.It bravely made an attempt to cross.It was in my
mind to pick it up and put it into a garden,but ,alas too
late.It was hit only lightly by a car then ,a lorry that
followed splattered the unfortunate all over the road.I
went away thinking I should have helped it.How quickly life
can change to death.
