The Mad Blossoms of May

The pink blossom dances itself into a frenzy as the wind
howls and
the rain lashes the black pavements giving
them a patina look. The sun that complimented the streets on
the May Day holiday has now taken its leave.The bright pink
blossom twirls and jumps around in its madness.The pavement
carpeted in pink like wedding confetti giving it a surrealist
aspect like a painting by Picasso or a film of Bunel.Last
nights television featured memoirs of VEday ,by the famous,
on its 70th anniversary.How times have changed and how time
has changed the celebrities ,most were regular faces on TV
back in the 60s and 70s when they were in their thirties
their faces now wrinkled and hair grey as they now inhabit
their seventies and eighties.Yet was it not but yesterday
that VEday of 1945?The grey and white of the photos and
films now taken on by the celebrities themselves.I often
wonder if we are not but watching our lives in retrospect
,a video of what has gone before because what we have or do
only reaches our grasp when it is then snatched from us
.Time , a wild mailstrom of fleeting events that whirls
wildly around us just like the fleeting pink blossom in
todays wind .As events unfurl and pass attitudes differ
cultures adapt,alter. In last nights programme many
commented on how human interaction had differed then from
now and in particular changes in politeness and degrees of
formality .Does time immediately give us a pair of glasses
that are rose tinted or was it really in some ways a golden
age? Some of the featured celebrities commented on the
casualties of war and often how they were treated.Service
men with hideous injuries and scars were often ostracised
because of the awful state of their appearance by those
whose
freedom they had given up so much for.In todays society
there is great emphasis on phsyicality and its sexual
derivations in the judgement and acceptance of people and
aspects of culture that are considered to be of merit.This
has even been a major feature of the current election
campaigne.
Like the blossoms in the wind I again recall the great and
moving protest song "Where Have All The Flowers Gone?" and
the subsequent question- When will they ever learn?, as
relevant now as it was in the 1960s or in 1945.When will
they indeed?
