Tea In York And Satanic Mills

I looked out of my office window at the dense crop of oak
trees that covered the valley and hills around Halifax .The
odd detached house or church spire dared stand out amidst
the thick verdence.The bright sand blasted chimney towers
of the old mill chimney towers rose firmly to the sky
.Their once black polluted stone ,dirty and polluted from
the smoke that rose from the industrial revolution here in
the heart of those dark satanic mills whose smoke has long
gone and whose revived beauty looks out on England`s green
and pleasant land.
The hot sunny days of last weekend seem to have slid down
an unseen crack and left us once more with dull,rainy days
.
On Sunday ,I went up to York where I listened to a sung
Tridentine Mass and then wandered freely around the narrow
streets , city walls and timbered houses of the historic
old city.It was warm even very hot as the sunshine hit the
river in silvery shimmers as pleasure boats sailed up and
down and under the historic bridge with its towers and
tearooms and boy does York have tearooms.
In the late afternoon I wandered into Yorkminster .A
massive medieval structure that on entering is sadly devoid
of any spiritual ambience with the feeling of a museum
rather than a holy place .I wandered into the Chior of the
building just in time for evensong and was uplifted into
an excelsis of sorts by the magnificence of the well
trained vocals of the choir.It was, by the time I left
,time to catch the train home but would have loved to have
stayed for a few days.
At last nights Eurovision Semi Final in Stockholm
Azerbaijan , Croatia, Hungary Russia ,Armenia, Malta ,Cyprus
Netherlands ,Austria and Czech Republic qualified to the
final which I thought was about right ,although I felt
Estonia had a very good song and great vocals.
life gores on in the tidal wave of time and I look forward
to a couple of days anual leave ...even if it rains.
