My Heart Goes Out to Highland Park, IL

My heart goes out to the residents of Highland Park, IL, especially to Aidan and Cooper!

Monday July 4th 2022, started out as any other week day; I walked for an hour or more with a friend. After the walk,we went over to another friend's house to have ringside seats for the parade.
I never would have thought that the day would end so tragically with six people being killed(one more later died) and dozens being injured by a sniper in nearby Highland Park,Illinois
Since the massacre, I have had a hard time getting the picture of Aidan out of my mind; he is the one, as we all know by now, who lost both parents in the massacre! I immediately thought:How do you tell a two year old that Mommy and Daddy are in heaven and will never come home again? What words do you use to cushion the information you have to tell him?

A better question is this: Why does a Black senior citizen
feel so much remorse about this incident? The answer: We are all human beings, and we are affected by the same things be they good or bad, and when children hurt, we all feel their pain! I am in deep sorrow because Aidan is an orphan, and no matter how much money has been or will be collected on "Go Fund Me" for him, it will never be sufficient to take away the pain, the sorrow, that little Aidan and others feel.

I mourn for the village of Highland Park: I mourn for the victims, like Cooper the eight year old twin who is now paralyzed from the waist down because of being shot in the chest. He has his family to love and lean on during this time, and little Aidan,the orphan, has his grandparents; let's hope and pray that it will be enough to sustain them during the months and years ahead?

I will continue to pray for Aidan,and his grandparents,who are now his caretakers; I will also pray for Cooper, who appeared to be so full of life before he was wounded; his family will also be in my thoughts and prayers!
Let's continue to show compassion where ever there is a need, no matter the race, color, or zip code!

What to Do Next?

*Pray for the village of Highland Park, IL;

*Pray especially for the healing of the wounded;

*Lobby vehemently for more restrictve gun control laws;

*Speak out when you see or hear of any ominous information;

*When you can, pray for the shooter.

*Grow and shine in the light of God's love!
