Misplaced

I often feel I don’t belong
In this world I’ve come to know
Sometimes I feel I should have lived
A long long time ago

I long for things that happened then
As strange as that may sound
I long to be back in a day
Where a highway cant be found

Cars had not been thought of
And you couldn’t board a plane
And if you had to travel
You went by horse or train

A time before a telephone
You talked by mail instead
A time that when the sun went down
You simply went to bed

Although I wouldn’t change my life
To go back to this time
I wonder why these days long past
Play so heavy in my mind

I don’t know why I have these feelings
That I write of in this rhyme
Perhaps these thoughts are simply longings
Of a man misplaced in time

One time I tried to go back to those long gone days but the hippie life didn't suit me to well although the initial concept was intriguing.

perhaps you are timeless, and these thoughts just flashbacks of fond memories from more quiet times...I long for them, too.

"longings of a man misplaced in time"...This is deeper than at first glance. Today we're addicted to *doing* rather than *being*! Don't know why we call ourselves human beings when we're really human doers! Great write, Jack!

I know the feeling of being misplaced, your not alone in your thoughts.

I always feel the same way, I even find I can write in the style of those who lived long ago and feel much more comfortable with it than modern speech. Loved this poem.

Yes, Jack, this fantasy is mine, also...but in the end, now is our time, this time is our now.

Great rhythm and flow to this softly yearning piece. :)

I'm a bit the same Jack.....I often think I was born in the wrong era and that this world is just too fast paced for me. I long for simple things, quiet times..A thousand acres wouldn't be vast enough for me at times. This is a beautiful poem...that I understand fully....Ty, Dani
