Looking Back

The evening winds are blowing
Limbs are swaying in the trees
The sight of this stirs in my mind
Some cherished memories

Looking back, I see me in a time
That now seems far away
It’s there I see me as a child
At the place I used to play

A time when things were simple
Not a worry to be found
I am sitting in my tree house there
So high above the ground

Looking down into the backyard
I can see my sister there
She is playing with her baby dolls
With barrettes in her hair

I see the old gray house we lived in
Needing mending, worst for wear
Looking back, it’s now a treasure chest
Of memories hidden there

I see my mother at the ironing board
Pressing out our clothes
How many times I’ve seen her there
Heaven only knows

She didn’t have a lot of money
But she did the best she could
She made sure that we knew we were loved
And gave us memories that are good

Now as I travel though my memory
To this time that I loved so
I cant believe this place
Is more than forty years ago

Some say they'd build a time machine
If the secret they could find
To them I say, just close your eyes
You have one in your mind

this was so beautiful and serene Jack-
yesterday and last night I spent a great deal of time looking out into the fields.. though they weren't "mine" I remember places like them.. the way the wind blew in my hair as I shed a tear.. it took me back... back "there"

wonderful write

Hi Jack,
This is soooo beautiful...
Funny, as we begin
to age, those certain memories we take with us forever..

Still I get certain
flashbacks of my
mother or father...
Our minds takes us
to that one peaceful place...
"There's No Place
Like Home"

I wish that I could click my heels three
times, and find myself
back home...

Very touching write...

Trixie :)

Jack the imagery of this brought tears to my eyes for this more peaceful and gentler time, I know every decade has its problems, but this one is beyond any before in the disrespect and careless attitudes that abound. Thanks for a look at the simple beauty of life.
