"But heaven flashes every now and then / Probably just a cruel illusion"

Poem Artwork

I Choose "Be"

Most of us here in this world are lonely
You have to be lonely to see it though
We search for love so earnestly only
To find it always just beyond our reach

In the end only we lonely ones know
Among the ruins of us all and each
That what we sing of love is just not so
That those who find it soon lose it again
Having tasted heaven then fall to hell

Only we lonely ones really know pain
This world is hell enough we know too well
But heaven flashes every now and then
Probably just a cruel illusion

And yet we still hope never knowing when
Lightning might strike to end our confusion

All of this teaches me celibacy

No light just pretty lies and weeping skies
Empty arms and "To be or not to be?"

Alone and accepting it I choose "be"

Well Steve this poem sure says a lot but....I hate bringing in the "buts" In my own experience, the pain of heartaches and lost love is always worth the joy of it. Can you honestly say you have lived if not for tasting love? Can we say that we are real if not enjoying the intimicies of sex now and then? Can we really live and talk and write about life withour experiencing the ups and downs of all there is to life including love? No celibacy my friend is an escape and not a very good one, you of tender heart no this.

"B" is nice but I choose "E", and as for celibacy, if necessary it is the way to go, for it makes it easier to not have to worry about a date on a saturday night..."E"d

Deep words, Steven Lance. And very much true. And yet there is always that small deep hope that someday we will find someone who will never leave us alone, never leave. And what other choice is there other than to choose to "be"? There is alone, and there is lonely. I choose to *be* alone, rather than lonely. Peace.
