The snow keeps falling all around them,
Rendering the landscape
Bright and white as far as the eye can see,
Unmindful of all that, they swim on.
A dive here, a casual breaststroke there,
And just floating most of the time.
And when they have had enough
Of the cold water
That could freeze any moment,
They decide to step out onto the snow.
They make their way across
The powdery snow
Naked as the day they were born,
Except, much bigger now,
Leaving a pair of footprints
To tell where they have just been.
From the warm confines of my cousins’ home,
Through the glass window that feels cold on my nose,
I spy them coming towards me
With not a care in the world.
I think to myself,
Should I offer them a towel?
Something hot to drink?
A chance to warm their heels?
Sub-consciously, I ask them the questions
That have sprouted in my mind.
I wonder what their would response be?
Consciously, I say, “Aw, Come on,
Canadian Geese surely do not need any of these”.
You surprised me with this one as you wrote it as if you spent years in a cold weather environment. You nailed it.
