THE FLAME OF A CANDLE

This poem is dedicated to the men and women who lost their lives on the space shuttle Columbia ( May they rest in peace )

Are we but flickers in
the flame of a candle,
destined to bend on breaths
of a whisper?

Our being diminishes as the tapers
glow fades in time.
It's light weeps tears of existence
until life ceases to be.

Psalms praise His glory
as names are etched in our hearts
and we ask, " are we but flickers
in the flame of a candle?"

The repetition in this poem lends to the power of this piece. A heartfelt poem which we can all appreciate, Paul.

Paul, wonderful imagery! I love that "its light weeps tears of existence" - I could just see a lone candle burning in the quiet of the night with waxen tears ebbing 'life' away. Times and seasons come whether we are ready for them or not, but we cannot have the light without being willing to let it go.

i think this is really beautiful. a delicate tribute to those lost in this tragedy. i like to believe that we are like fireworks lighting the darkness for a few moments while we are here (only a look and a glance, then onward we pass through the skies of fate...).
