This poem was inspired by a friend who spent three years in bad relationships. With the help of friends, family, poetry and her own inner strengths she was able to overcome these experiences and get on with her life. It poem is a little profound so please bear with me.
Life is sometimes challenged
by uncontrollable circumstances.
We look to ambivalence
meanwhile sacrificing continuity.
Our strengths are misused
and temporarily put on reserve.
It is easier for us to
contend without rationalism.
Rationalization becomes passe.
We begin to trust and depend
on that which we don't understand.
Insecurity replaces reality.
Dazzled but dealing with the moment
seems to be the only option.
Justification by acceptance
does not provide excuse.
Ultimatums thrive on volatility but
simplicity is eager to emerge.
Denial is no longer premier.
A reinstatement begins.

Perhaps it's just my mind set, but I see this happening in a MUCH milder form in many relationships. How many couples have those arguments that never go away? They go full circle without a resolution & the argument haunts another day. It's oftentimes easier to go with the flow rather than upset the status quo. Your poem relates the extreme, and it's a powerful inward glance into these types of destructive relationships. Different for you. You never cease to amaze me! Hugs~

This is a deep poem, Paul, but one I understand so well.
While Debtors prisons no longer exist, many people continue to be persecuted for crimes related to poverty or inability to repay money owed to municipalities. This practice remains in an injustice that needs to be rectified.
