You can still find them in southern Ontario. The wild trout, Brook trout, living in the little streams high in the watersheds. They are small, 4 to 6 inches, rarely growing larger. They've been part of the landscape since the last ice age.
They are threatened by deteriorating water quality, urban sprawl, hatchery plantings, and introduced species like rainbows and brown trout. But, I wouldn't count them out just yet. They're tough and they've been around a long time. They might just make it.
