Just remembering



The day is lost in splendor
the night is birthed in light
of gold, magenta, and blazing red.
While gulls race for the beach
nighthawks and screech owls
leave their daylight perches
to hunt the dark.
A distant coyote sings answering
some unheard but present urge.
The late light shines,
flares and fades:
Blazing red and golden magenta
gives way to deepening purple
fading ever so slowly to starlight …
