My Narrow Escapes (rough draft)

It all started on the day I was leaving South Africa to visit my daughter in England.

My flight was delayed by two hours on day one.

Plane had a fuel leakage and we had to wait for another flight for us to use THAT plane back to Johannesburg.

We landed as I was suppose to board the International flight. The security made me run like Paul Nash never could to make it in time…just to find the gates closed. Then I had to RUN back through exits not allowed by passengers to enter the boarding gate on the other side.

Believe it or not...I made it but not my luggage. I did get it two days later but without my gift...a “scooter” for my grandchild.

Then the visit turned sour after I wanted to meet some of my AD friends and sun-in-law made it hard to enjoy my visit like it should have been. Yes he spoiled my vision of the perfect partner for my daughter…say no more!!

There was so many clearance sales…I went crazy and daughter bought me A LOT of new clothes.

Then the big shock…as you know you have a limited luggage weight that you can take on board…and I had a double load…ha-ha-ha!!

I could not bring back all my luggage…way too heavy...so I had to leave about half of it behind...had no money to pay the fine...charge like 32 pounds per kilo over...and I had like 25 kilo's...grrrrrr!!

Will have to see if my daughter can ship it to me later!!

My flight was very un-comfy...on my way back.

I was pushed into a corner for 11 hours...and became very uncomfortable...do I need to say more?

Then when on Johannesburg I could not get an earlier flight and had to wait five hours before I could catch the next flight...because they wanted to charge me like R650-00 to change my flight...not like before and they did it for free.

And when on the plain at last...there was no food or drinks on the plane and we had to wait for the catering people to bring it on board.

And believe it or not...as we took off to fly the pilot made a joke and said…”today we have fuel…and we will be home soon...then as we were taking off and to the point of lifting the plane….all of a sudden the pilot made a dead stop...reason for that ...the autopilot was not functioning correctly.

Engineers had to fix the problem...and at last we left Johannesburg in fear...one hour later.

Soooo...I had a few kinda narrow escapes.

And the tummy would not allow anything to escape...lol…stress took over and made me explodable…ha-ha-ha…but I am still breathing “fresh “ air!!

It is good to be back at AD. Hope to be in your corner soon!!

Oh my Tinka! You only enforce my reason for not flying to Chicago to visit for Thanksgiving. I make it firm that I will not travel during the holidays! Regular flight is bad enough. I can't take it! You had a harrowing trip, besides the disappointments, and I'm glad you are back safe and sound, bless you!

Love,

Eileen

Poem? So that's where you've been. Interesting tale that any International traveler can relate to. Travel broadens our horizons.

Sounds like quite a trip Tinks but I think somtimes no matter how scary it is at the time it is often these kind of scares and little upsets thet make the trips we take memorable. Plus you got to visit friends and see daughter...one question did you get any new Union Jack undies? LOL

Miss my plane last connection in Paris (France) due to delays of mine.
Was graciously lodged for free in Sofitel Airport hotell to catch the morning fly to Casablanca (Marocco)
Eating brekfast I heard that the plane I missed had crashed on the Atlas mountains (North Africa) and were no survivors.
That was a narrow one too.

Good to have you safe and sound with your feet on the ground. We endure Hell to be together through the miles. At least you weren't traveling in a conastogan wagon for a year.

Love,
Susan

Oh my goodness...what a fright of a flight!!! So glad you are on solid ground again. If it weren't so awful it would be quite funny. It sure puts a bad name on "Flying the Friendly Skies"!!
So glad to be reading you again.

Man O man, Tinka, but think of two things: you survived, you're home. :) And think of the poetry you can pen about your adventures!!

Welcome back, I've missed you...sorry things didn't work out. :(
