A thought of you
Made me smile
You've been on my mind
For a while
I view a picture
Of you
And my heart races
Out of control
The Holidays are here again
The sand is hot
The air is still
Quite all around.
~~*~~
The stars twinkle
High in the heavens above
Like a Christmas tree
Glowing in the dark
I've never felt so alone
Posted in a foxhole
In desert sands
My Mind
Is a million miles away
I think of toys
I was blest with
In my youth.
~~*~~
Now all I wish for Christmas
Is to see another sunrise
All I want, is a little
Peace of mind
But it's hard, you see
I am trying my best
To fight back
This tear
At my eye's edge
Let me say
Within my heart
Good night my dear
I hope and pray
I see you
In The New Year.
~~*~~
I'll try to stay awake
As I hum a few lines
Of Silent Night.
~~~~~*~~~~~
This is a very exceptional piece of work. The emotional struggle against distance and solitude conveyed through the images created within this poem is palpable. I believe this poem will stay with me, as do some classics I quote over and over again.
Beautiful write William, so poignant and thoughtful for those who can't be home for the holidays. You captured it so well. God be with them.I applaud and honor their sacrifice!
The sacrifices that are made by soldiers are both heartwrenching and humbling, Bill. I pray for their safety and for their compassion whenever possible or necessary. I pray for their families and I am grateful for their sacrifice as well. This is an excellent write, thank you for remembering those who put themselves in harms way in an attempt to bring freedom to all.
Take care,
Sherry
Hum to your hearts content, Bill...hopefully from every foxhole the soldiers of the world, on both sides, will find peace in the not so distant future...Ed
