Nights are still for a reason in the wilderness...shhhhh

~~~~Listen!~~~~
Poem Artwork
Rhythm of the Night
Whispering Live Oaks, a breeze through her moss
Cricket's legs speaking , bug eyed and lost
Lightening bug flashing with all of her might
Listen , its calling, the rhythm of the night
Stars are exploding with brightness around
Moonbeams shooting, rays that rebound
Silently, Nighthawks brush by their prey
As evening lowers her midnight-blue shades
Its orchestrated, elated ,darkened and faded
Its lights out, earthly shouts , bright greens now jaded
Its stardust surrounding the comet's gold swing
Through cosmic light forces and a full moon's bright beam
Its silent love songs from clicking Raccoons
The swoosh of a Barn Owl, the call of the Loon
Its darkness and singing with twists and a shout
All music at night time, that's what it's about
It's smothering bouquets of aromatic nectar
The splash of a shrimp in the channel, projected
It's magic you know , illusion , insight
Mystery rebounding, it's the rhythm of the night.
Remembering night falling on Brazos Bend, when the alligator booming like a bass joined the cricket and tree toad to the dove's cry in the first blues song.
And, as Felix says, sort of... who want want to find a home anywhere else? This is blanket-on-the-ground stuff, Susan and what summer is all about for me, in the most romantic of senses. I love the intensity of the sweet summer sun, cornfields, shimmering seas and all of that... but the stillness of those Hot Summer Nights is even better... Tell me more, tell me more! The observation and authenticity is so marked in this telling pen that we don't doubt your firsthand experience. THAT's what makes us long for such a home. Excellent as always, TY Kate xx
I used to live in the countryside and this reminded me of the hoot of the owls at night - they used to scare me! Nightime is far from the quietness we think it is There is an even bigger burst of life at night but it isn't from the human population. Man is in bed, it's safe for the animals to play! I love the sound of chirping crickets, they are almost singing to each other. It's amazing how much goes on at night!
Listen, the snow is falling!
Reading this brought to mind our years spent living in a cottage next to a forest. Its daytime silence burst into life at night, making melody of varying notes not for our ears but for our imagination and instinctive senses to hear.
My heartbeat tapped to the rhythm.
Dai
Susan, this is just gorgeous! It reminds me so much of laying in the hammock, listening to the creatures as they meander through the forest on my beloved Burnside Island -the wildlife sanctuary I am so blessed to share with these creatures. The black capped night herons always fly in at sunset, the raccons move through the bushes and climb the palm trees, the great horned owls call to each other and the mullet and shrimp jump and splash just under me. Such a feeling of peace came over me when I read this. This is one of your best! Bravo!
Felix Perry is a tad more honest than the rest of us. Your sharp and descriptive poetry does the job right... making your reader want to RETURN to a place they've never been. You do this so well, Susan.
And it's just like you to post a work about your beloved Southland on the eve of your trip to the Appalachian mountains. Enjoy, Dear Heart... you're deserving! - Bill
Ah it amazes me how your writes on the South and your homeland always make me feel homesick as if I have been there before and it is calling me back. Coincidence? I wonder sometimes.
