This is why I came back to the marshes of Georgia.
I'm home now!
Natures Home
Its a nature call as emotions speak As I recall the happy times
When nature whispered in my ear and echoed a winsome rhyme
The tease of sunny streaks of bronze form tangerine arrays
A squint of tightly wrinkled eyes that shut out piercing rays
Then a big old sun greets tidal creeks with a soothing kiss
Then gently tickles fuzzy balls with a blooming bright caress
Her voice hums open hungry mouths and melody begins
When symphony of morning light opens up the fen
Life begins anew each day for marshes and their crews
The long-necked Egret searching creeks for her nestlings' food
The running in and out of reeds as the Marsh Hen scurries back
Then forth to check for salty bugs or clicking fiddler crabs
The constant rock of a dock as a wake comes from the blue
Canoeing comes a sailor checking out this too
Not a cloud for me today this one is a special "10"
No matter what a day can bring its special in the fen
The chaos of an outside world seems so far away
When otters, crabs and shrimp that hop take my breath away
I feel so blessed to have the joy...these simple things in life
When others complicate their day with ordinary strife
I have that too but when I'm home the stress is lifted here
Where life is subtly designed without complicated tears
The outside world of greed and money is taking a great toll
When money speaks and make new laws to overtake these folds
Our wonder of the wetlands...the beauty of each day
The food chain's more endangered when silent voices pay
It's nature's wondrous canvas... one of dangered growth
Where civilized minds keep paper- trailing natures undergrowth
The red ink comes and swallows up low country soft wetlands
We all lose when nature is cast away like sand
Quietly won't get it...mere shaking heads leave moans
Nothing seems to matter when nature has no home.
Susan, your poem is excellent. We need thoughts such as these to return us to what is really important in life. Our moments to relax are our moments of sanity.
Very fine visual piece, for I can almost see Lazaretto creek now and I can almost get a whiff of the aroma one gets on a hot summers day in whitemarsh. You flooded my mind with words that painted a picture so fine. I enjoyed the trip so much. Great write.
