Learning to walk, I found my shadow
a breath away, always following behind.
It rose with me, walked with me, bowed down
always subservient. The sun’s my crown.
Sometimes in the dark
light shadows would play
entertaining me
beyond the brink of reality.
Inside and out, shadows embraced me
and cowered, hovered at my beck, call.
It was ‘I’ who grew, they stayed the same.
It is their ‘duty’; I’m not to blame.
Shadows crave the sun,
romping in the park,
prancing on white walls
and smell of roses
infused. They savor their scent daily.
Whenever I lay down, shadows fade.
and the ones on the walls are not mine.
They dazzle in sun, fizzle at dusk;
I beg them to stay . . . but go they must.
Imaginative
illumination
with limitations . . .
some may linger lost . . .
wishing for a chance to be alive.
If I could catch my shadow, we’d dance . . .
pirouette our way into heaven.
Material things are minor, see . . .
but shadows are constant company.
On the sunny side,
there’s nothing to fear.
Shadows can’t harm you--
they are all grounded.
Humans, alone, chose their destiny
and I’m taking my shadow with me.
