Pretending, make believe,
attempt to be strong;
I want to belong.
Will my family
ever accept me?
I try. Everything's wrong
yet, I need to belong.
Always uniquely me;
I'm independent, see.
E'en my best failed their tests,
so I make believe
that they all love me;
Despite living so long,
inside there's a sad song.
Why do I feel left out?
Reading, I cry, weep, pout.
Wanting your love ... withheld,
laughter is forced, it's jailed
behind the bars for'er.
I'm my father's child
which left you all riled.
Always out, looking in,
when you laugh, giggle, grin.
Tree switches bear my name,
I pretend you're insane ...
I'm innocent, no blame;
behind heavy things, hide
when I see your grin slide.
Pretending, make believe
that someday I'll receive
a family to love
who'll love me in return.
Is it all right to yearn?
Nail in my foot, you smile
push it thru ... hold a while.
Why does your love hurt me?
Momma, please ... set me free.
Sounds like my childhood, Sandra: yet, they do love us... as much as they are capable. You see, they hate themselves first and are jealous if you don't hate yourself, too. They don't wish to be in so much pain alone: much like that drowning man, they attempt to pull us down with them. But, truly, it doesn't matter what they think or do: it is all about what we think and what we do that counts. Poignant write, well done. ~~Bonnie Q
