I've lived with enough criticism to recognise

It's toxic traits seeping into someone
Before the sentence is even out
Glass half empty
Life is all bad kind of approach

I think I know enough of me to
Not fall for that cycle again
I dont know if love will ever be enough
To cover up stains of disdain left by words
That remind of a past I wished I hadn't lived

You don't have that kind of authority anymore
No human does
To make me a victim of carefully crafted
Insults wrapped in compliments
And then have the audacity to demand a thankyou

The walls were always high
The door I left a little open
To try and make this work
I think my self respect won't allow you anywhere near it
Not again. Not ever
You don't get to have that power anymore

It's terrible when someone tries to control us. Your poem conveys that terrible feeling very well.
