Through life we make an effort to mold ourselves. Decisions sometimes difficult to make.

Poem Artwork

 The Potter’s wheel

As the clay sits on the potter’s wheel, you set the wheel in motion

It takes shape as you move your wet hands up and down the solid mass

You try to take care as you make smooth paths some with design

Reflecting yourself in every move of your hands

You do not want to make an error for this is your creation

So you try to take your time moving up and down slowly on the cold clay

There may be a point you change in midstream to alternate the shape

Sitting back you view it, not quite satisfied and begin to remold

For yourself you wish to have perfection in your creation

You want it to stand out before others so they can recognize your talent

But sometimes you slip, and a flaw is formed you hope goes unnoticed

So you try to build a design around your flaw creatively

I think we can be our own worst enemy. But it never hurts to improve ourself if we can.

We make who we are along the way. Perfection can never be found, we just have to do the best we can and not worry about what others think of us. Just being happy ourselves is what counts.

We all try to be perfect, we strive for perfection. And it are just the (little) flaws that make us individuals, unique individuals, interesting individuals.
You show us in a beautiful way the life struggle between perfection and individualism, between what the world wants to see and being unique.

Beautifully done, thank you

The last line is the crux of innocent art. "Reflecting yourself in every move of your hands" brought to me the image of children fingerpainting....reflecting themselves in every move of their hands. Their uberinnocent art, however, perceives no flaw. Wish we could still be like them. This poem sings of that wish, I feel. Beautiful song ~~ Diana

Lily,
We are as we are each perfect individuals just with variations.

The great potters wheel rarely shapes us to perfection. Therefore many seek miracle cures and plastic surgery to shape themselves into what they think they should be. Many here throw out a pot a day without caring whether they have trled for perfection.

How wonderful you write on how we try to mold ourselves Lily. I'm with Ed Matlack, Ghost and faults and flaws are life.

Whew! I almost lost myself tripping out on other thoughts as I read this beauty. And beauty it surely is. I absolutely love the ending as you build around the flaw in such a way as to be creative. Love it. Love it. Good touch!
