“Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens.” ~Kahlil Gibran~

Poem Artwork

Wrapped in the warmth of my comforter
Gazing out my window frosted in winter
watching snowflakes descend I reflect
Remembrances of life’s first breath

From the smiles showered upon me
through tragic beginnings and loss
to the smiles I was given blessed
to the squalls of my newborn sons

Nary once shall I complain
life was more unkind than kind
it formed my soul molding love
a strong soul filled with compassion

Throughout my life I have learned
I have gleaned wisdom on my journey
Though I will never say I am wise
for only a fool can claim such a thing

Let naught one soul believe that with age
learning is over, for we still stumble and fall
for if naught to learn, the road is a dead end
let this road be never-ending for our-self

Know on our travels this lifetime
through all we have encountered
it was naught all in vain
we are taught through every footstep

Treasure each footstep no matter how light or deep
for we become an instrument of teaching
to walk beside another soul and help them
knowing their learning is their own

We realize on our journey
we are very strong souls
our journey is naught for faint of heart
and creates strength in our character

We create within our-self growth
growth many do not wish to experience
and stay behind and learn from us
Let us be the Light of Guidance

would your really want to be anybody else? the grass is never greener on the other side so to say. Each individual journey has amazing highs and incredible lows but, it is at the end of the day how you look at it. nicely written.

I am currently going through the most painful experience in my life so far. I guess it is true when people tell me that I have never "grown up." I'd rather not have to learn in this manner but I guess that is life. Thank you for sharing this meaningful write, Carol. Love, peace, and best wishes to you,

Regis

What a wonderful piece to share. It always benefits oneself to revisit our earliest memories. Here is one I just discovered that makes me think of myself after birth. The title is "One Day."
This thing named me,
And there is work to do here
Is why I want to believe
And just that. I must challenge the way, however, beware
Any more,
and to watch out
For being here, for I cannot stop,
as I could
As my time in a weak soul
Can gasp the void of perpetually.

Your poem speaks volumes, and we must take everything through a positive attitude and use what we've learned. I liked this very much!

First let me tell you, Your quote from "Kahlil Gibran" is one of my favorite quotes! Your poem, exemplifies this quote. Life is in our hands, we make it what we want it to be. We choose to grow or not. We choose to love or not, and we choose to live or not...
Excellent poetry, my dear friend!

Peace, love and light, and Happy New Year!

You're an old soul who gained a lot of wisdom among lives roads.
Not only this road but the many roads you've walked,
not only this life but the many life's you've lived.
Your path was long but the journey made you wise.

Thanks for sharing a piece of your wisdom with us Carol

You have traveled some very difficult roads during yout life on this old earth, Carol. The difference in you and so many others is that somewhere along the way you found your place in the universe and that place you found was a very good place. You are a wonderment to all who know you.
