When the family gathered at my mother and father's house on Sunday afternoons, all the grandchildren and their friends begged my father to mimic the sound of a crying baby. This short poem is a tribute to my father's ability to make children laugh.
From my memoir River of Memories: An Appalachian Boyhood * * * * * Cry Like a Baby If I surveyed just all the kids Who remember Papaw Jack, They'd conjure memories in their heads And no doubt want him back. They'd ponder this and ponder that; Perhaps, perchance, just maybe They'd hear their papaw in their thoughts-- Him cryin' like a baby. * * * * *

There is also something sweet and innocent that children remember about their grandparents. This poem, keeps the memories alive for future generations...
