‘Tis The Season
Copyright: December 14, 2007 - Tom Hyland
Up on the House-Top,
Click, Click, Click …
The Sound of Hooves,
Could it be Saint Nick?
Out on the Lawn,
Some New-Fallen Snow,
A Star in The East,
With a Brilliant Glow!
A Strange, Wonderful Spirit,
Encompasses the Earth,
A Remembrance of Things Past,
A Humble, Lowly Birth!
T’was in a Manger, in Old Bethlehem,
Amidst the Baa-Baa-ing of Sheep,
And the Lowing of Cows,
There, The Babe, was Nestled in Sleep!
The Trip was a Long, and Arduous One,
So the Little Donkey rested his Feet.
Wise Men came from The Orient,
To Pay Homage to The One - as Angels did Greet!
“Peace and Goodwill”
“Tidings of Great Joy”
“Allelujah” sang the Chorus,
All Praise Be - to Mary’s New Boy!
Two Thousand Years Ago, or So,
This was the Scene.
Later, this Blessed Virgin,
Would be Hailed - as a Queen!
Regina Caeli would be Her Name,
Assumption into Heaven - was for her Sake.
Like Eve, in The Garden,
Her Heel would Crush the Snake!
Pagan Rituals, Autumnal Equinox,
Some try to Attribute to This Story,
Winter Solstice, Legends and Such,
But Unto God Be The Glory!
Centuries have Come,
Centuries have Gone,
But This Greatest Story
Has Carried On!
A Fairytale? A Childrens’ Dream? Perhaps to Some!
But It has Survived through the Ages,
Even the Drummer Boy playing on his Drum!
So Sayeth the Soothsayers, and other Sages!
‘Tis The Season,
Whether With, or Without - Reason,
For Peace to Reign,
Love and Joy Ease Man’s Pain!
Happy Holidays! Is Shouted Aloud,
But Merry Christmas! To those who are Proud!
Yes, Christmas has Long been a Federal Holiday,
No Work - but Pay - on this Joyous Day!
Nay-Sayers Complain, Fuss, and Moan,
What about Us? We’re left Alone!
Perhaps when their Numbers Ever Increase,
Uncle Sam will see Fit, to Honor their Feast?
In the Meantime, we Christians shall Re-Tell,
Over and Over, with the Ring of a Bell,
This Story of Christ, as the Stores continue to Sell,
And Corporate Profits their Coffers do Swell!
Commercialism? Kris Kringle, Santa Claus,
Even Rudolf shares the Limelight with his Flight!
Some say ‘Tis the Season of Insanity,
But It Warms the Heart of Christianity!
A Solid Month of Songs and Hymns,
Stereos and Speakers Blare out the Whims,
Even the Girl who wanted a Hippo Hero,
Now, as a Grandmother, draws us Nearer!
Nearer to God, Nearer to His Grace,
Peace and Goodwill - to the Whole Human Race!
To the Top of the House, to the Top of the Wall,
Now, Dash Away, Dash Away, Dash Away All!
‘Tis the Season - to be Jolly!
Oh, by Gosh, by Golly!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
