Did you ever realize that August is the only month of the year,
where not one, single solitary Holiday does appear?
Well, just how did this come to be?
Perhaps we should take a moment, to have a look-see.

Only ten months in the Roman calendar, way back when,
for: Septem means seven, Octo = eight, Novem = nine,
and Decem = ten.
Along came the "Caesars",
you know what Julius and Augustus did,
re-arranged the calendar, inserted their little bid.

There was the goddess, Janus, who was two-faced,
then Februa, feast of purification, was so embraced.
Mars, the god of wars, advanced steadily,
then, Aprilis, only God knows, who this may be!

Maia, was another goddess, hard to find,
Juno, queen of heaven, whom Jupiter did mind.
Well, that's Six, count 'em, the other Four's above,
and now you've heard the Ode to August ...
