Reds and greens and happy lights aglow
Fragrant trees, brightly wrapped presents, and sneaky mistletoe
Clamoring, chortling children run about and play
Amidst the jolly sounds of Santa’s baritone “Ho, Ho, Ho”
Nostalgia, emotions, memories of dozens Christmases past
Thoughts of holiday good times, family, friends and relationships meant to last
Grandma, grandpa, mother and dad watch with glee
As their kids rip wrapping from their gifts with nimble fingers fast
Noel and Christmas carols sung in cheerful harmony
Sparkling ornaments hanging and a train set circling the tree
Merry Christmas; a time of caring and giving
A time for love, togetherness, and merry revelry
Turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sand dabs and pie
Waistlines bulge, clothes don’t fit, and small wonder why
Oaths and promises and a New Year’s weight loss diet
