The neighbor in apartment ten,
I only see her now and then-
A perfect figure, must ignore
The thought of what’s behind the door.

The lonely evenings passing by-
Like all of life, we wonder why-
Day after day we feel hope fade
For dreams that hide somehow afraid.

One A M I heard some knocking-
Me there still awake, not shocking-
Mellow music- guess too loud-
Owed apology, not proud.

Open door and she’s there standing-
Try to breathe, my heart expanding,
“God I’m sorry, couldn’t sleep-
Mellow music makes me weep.”

“Couldn’t either.” Precious voice.
“Doesn’t seem to be a choice.
But- it did occur to me
That you might want some company.”

Well- now that you mention it
I guess that we could chat a bit,
She giggled as I let her in-
No doubt I’m busted by my grin.

Times like this you thank the gods-
A happy life against all odds.
Agreed, we both call out tomorrow-
Say goodbye to all our sorrow.
