Life’s Promise by John Herlihy Thoughts unwilling to entertain Desires that linger and remain Roads with nowhere to go Destiny that we quietly sew A future that may never arrive A past from which we survive Memories wishing to remember Love with feelings oh so tender Memories we hope to forget Actions that we will regret Life's happiness waiting to live A friend ever willing to give Sorrows that we have to bear Miseries that lead to despair The wind sounding as a wail This one life the one true tale Disinterest a stingy lender Curiosity as a burning ember Life as a puzzle to assemble Fears that make me tremble Life's mystery ready to unfold Life's story waiting to be told Life's promise wishing to be kept Life's secret as the last thing left - - - - - Copyright © John Herlihy Wednesday 21 January 2026

Ending was the perfect wrap up. Seems there is so much could be said about the variations in what life is and your contribution is well worth the re-reading. Thanks for posting, John.
