A friend sent me the following poem:

One fine day in the middle of the night
two dead men stood up to fight
back to back they faced each other
drew their swords and shot each other
and if you don't think this story true
go ask the blind man - he saw it too!!

Author unknown to me.

It tickled my sense of humour so I decided to have a go, can you add to the one I have written below, or come up with one of your own. If you can add to mine, I would like to add it to this page, with your name, if you will allow. Jackie <><

One dark night while the sun shone bright

In the dark of light came a ghostly sight,

Black clad monks in robes of white

All short and fat, great was their height.

A breeze blew lightly as the strong wind howled

Bare tonsured heads were closely cowled,

As quick they sped and slowly prowled

With deathly grin on life they scowled.

Their tight fitting robes hung loosely about them

As the welcoming villagers who were quick to condemn

Quietly slammed their windows up tight

As the monks peacefully looked for a fight

The  drizzling rain did a torrid dance

As one monk closed his eyes to glance

At the golden hair of the bald headed maiden

Who came empty handed and full laden.

The maiden fair with skin of black

She looked ahead her eyes looked back.

The people opened bricked windows high

As they looked downward towards the sky.

Then fog moved in on this sunny day.

The mood was black as all were gay.

They happily sang sweet songs of sorrow.

Then looked back with memories of tomorrow.

I have always loved that poem...we used to say it over and over as children and giggle our heads off :0)

just thought quickly of this while I let my potatoes burn:

Hmm....now THIS is a cute challenge! How clever of you to turn that snippet of a poem Carolyn sent to us into this entertaining "form"...I'll see what I can come up with! I can't wait to see what people come up with - if I had some time I'd contribute - maybe I'll stop by later and do just that......
