Wish I were a squirrel,
either a boy or a girl.
Always so resilient,
never have to be subservient.
Surely I'd survive the cold,
acorns galore my pot of gold.
Nice and cozy in someone's attic,
don't even need a darn schematic.
No taxes or electric bill,
just relaxing and taking my fill.
It's just fun to be an acrobat,
limb to limb with a little chitchat.
Jury duty's out of the question,
that would only give me indigestion.
No car insurance, no worldly care;
never even have to apply for welfare.
Wish I were a squirrel,
either a boy or a girl.
Always so resilient,
never have to be subservient.
P.S. The only work I'd have is to avoid the bug spray from a human trying to get rid of me!

and show you the nuts I've got,
but I should've made a map,
where "x" marks the spot.

As per Dan's comment, I read where squirrels instinctively bury nuts everywhere. When in need, they can find them where they are buried by smell and dig them up, well preserved in the soil. The ones they mess often grow into trees. One of the forest's ways of being reborn.
