Softly toe walking he climbs from between the low arches of cathedral spirals of earth tones aching beauty in the Gulch, Escalante River canyon which he calls home to walk across natures most magnificent natural bridge to the sky he howls in the winter of his matured year sending out his doleful wail, with coyote's quiver of voice Welcoming all females for they are most ardently desired just follow the sound of my siren lure, a true song of the west contrasting in a raised and lowered keening he warns all males answer so we have not unwanted conflict of territorial terrain more handsome was he then most of his breed Light tan with black tip tail which he kept well- groomed the answer came on the wind, a volley of loud yelps a call of celebration, then a howl saying I am, here I am here she was a real mountain beauty with long silky dark thick fur her sweet under carriage was white with lovely white tip of tail she had traveled far for the winter had been hard and food scares many had sang their song of love to her but it was his that touched her being seeking out her lover of desert song, they meet in the cold moon light this pair of wild contrasting beauty, sang a duet of unharmony to the wind sealing their mating vows for all the world to hear and see
