You might read Katy Walsvik' newest work, the Violin Player, for a bit of an explaination of this write, or to a degree...
North Shore Shark…
As I surfed the big waves off the North Shore,
In Hawaii these waves did come ashore for sure,
I did see this shark come cruising, bumping my feet,
My surfboard my only protection, not much of a feat,
He swam and circled me as if he were about to eat,
Then I caught a wave, and rushed away from this beast…
As the day wore on, he came back with a passion,
For my meat, he was after, my chips in I was cashin’,
He always circled for several minutes before he would charge,
He was a big beast, twenty-five feet or more, boy he was large,
Fortunately for me, a wave would come just before,
Before he was ready to charge in and take me for his dinner,
Prayed to my god, that he would let me live, I was such a sinner,
This shark he was looking to feast on a part of my ear, yes inner…
Then the unthinkable did happen, I fell, off my board, into the oceans fray,
I could not see, I could not think, all I did see was a bit of the suns rays,
I swam towards the surface, but then what should appear,
But this big shark with teeth so big I certainly did fear,
But instead of eating me, he just did smile,
To show me his tooth with a name etched in it,
It seems that all during his off and on attack today,
He just wanted to come by and tell me, yes say,
That he knew of another poets dad that rode him one day,
Then etched in his tooth, his name, he swore he would repay…
So for Katy, I must quietly tell you,
Believe in your dad, no matter what he did say,
Hanging from the Empire State, he may have done just that,
Playing the violin, you learned where that belief was at,
Now you can know that there is one shark in the deep blue,
That owes his life to your dad, as well as one special tooth…
There in Hawaii I saw this shark, as I bounced off the bottom, he did smile at me and wave; on his tooth were letters of a name of this one guy that got away…
If you believe me with regards this, I will tell you all how I once won the powerball lottery, yes indeed I was once not a sinner, but a winner…

Great take on Katy's post;-)love that photo!
Yikes! A very close call, Ed. In Britain, humans like their Fish 'N Chips; in Hawaii, sharks like their Humans 'N Chips.
You truly are indebted to Katy's father. You should probably send Katy's Dad that money you won in the Powerball!
