When were we so young…?

Fell on the beach today, asleep,

Back to better times I did dream,

Of cut off jeans and bare feet,

Blond hair and tanned bodies,

A time for me that was oh so neat…J

Awakened, was I, by the gentle lap of a wave,

Telling me it’s this past time in my memory to save,

Reminding me that the past is always there,

A memory of when life was always most fair…J

When were we so young?

Before school did teach of us of Freud and Jung,

Before boys did find girls to be worth more than a custard treat,

When we used to throw water balloons down from the second floor seats,

Skinny-dipping in the ocean at dawn, and skiing in the bay till dusk,

Long before we did learn about bathing with soap and wearing musk…J

I love dreams like this I must say,

I would sleep on the beach if I could everyday,

Memories of playing with kids from Canada,

Meeting new friends every summer,

And losing them at the end, what a bummer…!L

So many memories seem today to flow,

So many memories I have lost as I did grow…J

Returning to a youthful thought often removes age caused by negativity. Wonderful write. Now get out on that beach and meet new friends. :-)

Things certainly did seem simpler when we were kids, Ed. I remember when going outside to play was my job. Coming back in to lunch already made for me and "having" to take a nap. Then back outside till dinner time. I did have chores, but mom really did want us out of the house during the day. Nice memories...thanks for jaring the grey matter for me.
Take care,
Sherry
