Hard to believe,
I lost my dear friend then,
Gene left this world on the thirtieth of June,
He was just a bit of a loon,
But then again we both were way back when…
He now is with his mom, sisters & brothers,
Even though I was not his family I loved him as such,
He left this world way too soon in my thinking,
He was my best friend, together we did much…
Can't say that I had a best friend, probably because my twin brother took the place of a best friend during my period of growing up. But all of my better friends are still alive except one old girlfriend that died a year ago.
You don't say what Gene died of, but I don't think it was fast living like you. And you, of all people certainly need someone like that around, to keep you vitalized.
I lost my best friend 15 years ago, and there's not a day that goes by that I don't think of him. His death left an empty space in me that's never been filled. I consider myself lucky to have had such a good friend. As you said, he will always be a part of me, so I can really relate to your write.
