Memories of ones hometown can trigger happiness &/or a longing to be home again!

Home Town Memories

We all have one

We run away when old enough

But, we seem to run back when needed

Like we did as kids, back to mommy

When necessary…

Our hometowns may have changed

Good changes and some not so good

They may have grown or…

                           been overgrown.

They may have new homes, the old being replaced.

Just as in life, the elderly replaced by the young.

But in reality, home is still there, be it just the fact that it is our place to go to recharge.

Or just to know home is always there for us to run away too.

There are always old friends there too, not just people, but places,

                            things, smells.

Happy places of remembered childhood adventures & playtimes.

Long days, gallivanting through the woods or on the beach or up

                            and over hills.

Wonderful memories, sometimes forgotten, but always a part

and parcel of our hometown experience.

Good memories--a warmness that belongs inside your heart. New adventures are great, but there is nothing like coming home; if nothing else but to drive down Main Street. BobbieHZ

(((ed)))

now you've gone and done it--made me homesick for my hometown of ontario, ohio *snif* you were safe there, could leave your car and house unlocked, you knew your neighbors, kids could play unmolested...ahhhhh, the good ole days. :)

fine piece of writing, my friend--very much enjoyed *a keeper for my library!*

(((HUGS))) and love,

karla. :)

Ed, another enjoyable write. There is no place like home. I remember my Mother repeating that so many times when I was a child, but not until I was grown did I understand the true meaning and depth of that statement. I tracked all over the place until about 4 years ago, and finally I moved home. I'm so glad I did. Thanks for the memories. Lisa

So, so true, Ed! I went to all my old favorite places growing up, woods, golf course, lumber mill, river, curling club, etc. when I was back in Wisconsin this summer on vacation, I loved it!! :) My beautiful hometown that I left to go pick cherries in the state of Washington! Sigh, yet, if we don't leave, isn't it different, the way we see the place of our childhood...? Hmmm, you've got me thinking...
;) You have a wonderful style of talking 'easily' in pieces like these, like you are talking to a friend, conversing and enjoying each others company and minds. :)

Excellent Ed. It brought back such
sweet memories of my homeplace.
There's no one there anymore, and
nothing to back too...but in my
memories it still lives abundant
with childrens laughter and good
times.
Thanks for taking me back.

River of Memories: An Appalachian Boyhood by David Thompson

For a time, I perched myself on a flat rock, comparing my life with the Guyandotte River. Just as its tributaries replenish it daily, changing it in some small—sometimes great—degree, so have the day-to-day occurrences of life changed me. Like the ri
