More than 15,000 Flamingos at a time migrate to this region in search of food in the mudflats near the bay every year. Flamingos are rare to breed in captivity.So it is important to conserve them in their natural habitat.

. The Flemingo Festival at Sewri, Mumbai India , The migratory birds came visiting A flock of birds unfurled like flags hoisting What a wonder how they manoeuver To the same place each time over Beneath the white moon, near the mangroves By the shore, they happily flew in droves Long necked, tall, elegant pink beauties Stood in the dark, like a troop on the mark on duty Thousands all at once, lightly on their feet, each step dainty Graceful flamingos, fair and lovely, now the landscape pinkish Hundreds of lights flashing all together link And the earth showered with colours blink Singing songs of love and longings All around flamingos dance in unision by the bay From end of winter until drizzling rain showers first came Tens of thousands in a line, in mudflats by the creek What a wonderful sight, this Flamingo mission Seeing which my heart leapt filled with passion J K Roseline

Reminds me of the pink flamingos in my front yard.

Wonderful! I didn't know there were flamingos in India. I have seen documentaries showing huge flocks in Africa, and I know they are living in the wild in Florida. My encounter with flamingos was at the Milwaukee zoo, where they seemed to mingle with the zoo visitors as though they were tourists observing the humans. It was very nice to see them up close as they walked with their heads down less than 2 feet away. I wonder what they think of us, looking at us upside down?
