My annual Christmas poem.
Christmas 2016 So creeping upon us will be Christmas day Or perhaps it is here and doesn’t know what to say I see decorations outside that are all ready being lit up The stores are all ready for Santa’s helpers to shop Christmas commercials are being shown on the tube And I’m sure many are humming those old time Christmas carols, too It hurts my heart that the season, the feeling is being rushed Christmas is losing its meaning And it’s not Christmas to children without new toys, money, or such What happened to waiting until December 1st? What happened to the reason for the season? Not the X-mas you see It’s the Christ in Christmas that is important to me I will admit that gifts are nice, but that doesn’t change the truth That this time of year is about love, forgiveness, and spreading joy It’s not all about that man whose sleigh parks on your roof Family is important, or at least it used to be But as I have learned first hand, some are only worried about money Who can upstage who… Who can put on a better show… Why I’d rather stand on the street with a beggar, you know Then to ever be forced to dine with a queen Let us not forget how it all began A baby in a manger because there was no room in the inn He didn’t receive the newest X-Box, toy dump truck, or airplane He received Frankincense, gold, and myrrh And He was destined to be our King Let us not forget about Jesus or how truly blessed we are He gave up so much for us Can’t we do this for Him? Love one another and help our fellow man As I give thanks tomorrow surrounded by those I love Christmas will only be a brief thought in my mind And as the days near it will be time to decorate and prepare But as for me, I will wait to share To share my love of the Christmas story, my belief of Santa, and enjoyment of the Grinch Those times will come when they are meant to And so I end with this… May your blessings this Christmas and into the New Year outweigh your sadness By the time you see this it will be almost that special time So God Bless you all and may the love in your hearts this year shine the brightest of all! A common lament about Christmas. I began to think that it's been going on this way for over 100 years. Perhaps it is because in childhood, regardless the age, everything seems magical. But when we grow up we began to see the crassness that creeps in and began to question what commercialism has done to the celebration.

Thank you, gentlemen! I pray that you both have a lovely Christmas. I apologize for this poem being in paragraph form, as it is supposed to look like the poem it is. Since you guys were able to read it though, perhaps I will leave it this way. At least until someone argues otherwise ;)

Nicely done. By not using periods at the end of the sentences your prose carried me on like it was more of a stream of consciousness thread. Made me think and I think the effect it had was that it gave your observations more impact. This is more like one of those "thanks, I needed that." Just in time for the holiday to help me consider what ought to be the way we should appreciate the season. Thank you.
