The absurdity of the modern era

Poem Artwork

Jagged mobiles
With parabolic downward curves
Of branching satellites,
Like a couple’s lifespan that peaks and falls,

Or the belittling of alcoholics
Afraid of peach cobbler
Or the annoying abundance of writers
Who employ writers as their protagonists.

The giraffes who do laundry
Are as those who expect politicians
To fulfill their campaign promises.

Does the escapist 8 ball make you hungry
For a platter of gouda cheese, mustard and lederhosen?
Or the treacle of lies?

Life is the Buick of Cadillacs,
A salty dough topographic relief of mini-storage units
With identifying map tacks.

Are the coats to be unzipped in spring?
Unlikely, for hope is commandeered
With curdled whipped cream on top.

Actually, quite cheesy. I really like that line, "Life is the Buick of Cadillacs." And who's not, "Afraid of peach cobbler?"

While I'm sure I missed a number of references in these highly clever and creative lines. I think I understand the angst expressed.

as is well known, the whipped cream on top, although costs more, is easier of getting than the brown bread dough beneath. Once we get confused to distinguish the flowers from fruits, all the mess emerges in no time. Regrettably, it has already happened long ago. Cheers, alex

a cornucopia of poetry imagery topped with curdled whipped cream, a fitting symbol of the age. John

To express this dysfunctional world in any less degree of absurdity would do a disservice to the sane of us needing some comic relief. Metaphors abound in stanza after stanza, each developing to the last one that says it all. Imagination at its best.

This is worth the read just for the originality of the metaphors. But you have laced them together into a coherent whole while showing us the absurdity of life through a prism that no one has ever heard of, much less looked through. It caught me off guard in that I expected curdled whip cream to be the ending to a short love affair. How mundane is that? You are one-of-a-kind with omnidirectional talent.

I'm sorry, but I didn't get this one. However it did remind me of Simon & Garfunkel's At The Zoo. None the less, it was an interesting write full of imagery.
