ONOMATOPOEIA

Onomatopoeia is a word,

That imitates a sound.

They’re sprinkled throughout this poem,

And there’s plenty to be found.

It’s no fun having hiccups.

A trickling faucet goes drip drop.

My jello fell on the floor,

And landed with a squish and a plop.

A dog likes to bark.

Chickens cackle and cluck.

A mouse squeaks,

And if it quacks, it’s a duck.

Zip, zap and zoom.

Spray, splatter, splish and splash.

Coins jingle, jangle, jingle.

Ca-ching is the sound of cash.

Birds chirp and tweet,

As they sing a song.

Horses neigh and whinny,

As they go clip-clopping along.

Click, clack, bang and clang.

Grunt, growl, moan and groan.

Ah-ooh-ga is the sound you hear,

When an old time horn is blown.

Bees buzz.

Pigs oink and squeal.

Snakes slither and hiss.

Lions roar for a meal.

Sniff, snort, cough and hack.

Spit, belch and burp.

Rumble,  grumble, and mumble.

Gargle, gurgle and slurp.

Cats meow and purr.

Pigeons coo and cows moo.

An owl likes to hoot,

And a wolf howls aroo.

Siizzle, drizzle, and fizzle.

Slap, smack and smash.

Whiz, whoosh, whirl and whip.

Rustle, rattle and crash.

Abracadabra is magical.

A sneeze goes ah-choo.

Aha is an exclamation.

A cry goes boo-hoo.  

Ding-dong, tick tock.

Bing, boink and boing.

Thump, bump, shriek and creak.

A busted spring goes sproing.

Whistle, whisper and whine.

Tinkle, crinkle and crunch.

Jabber, babble and blab.

Chug, chatter and munch.

Onomatopoeias imitate sounds,

Whether spoken or penned.

And so this poem,

Comes screeching to an end.
