My granddaughter gets to dissect a frog today, and she asked me to write a poem about it that she could share with her class, and this is what I came up with.

 DISSECTION DAY

It came from a jar,

Green and gray,

And with a plop.

It was on my dissection tray.

It had four legs,

And a pointy head.

It was a frog that croaked,

And was definitely dead.

The frog was on his back,

With his underside in the air,

And with dissecting tools in my hand,

I fainted, and needed medical care.

Once while just coming out of anesthesia for back surgery when I was a teenager, the nurses and doctors told me later I was describing how I used to try to do frog heart transplants with two live frogs in my science lab in this back little room of our old house. I actually did transplant the hearts and had some success, or at least I imagined I suppose. I was a weird teenager.

While I chopped off frogs' legs and fried them in butter for for dinner, I never took biology and had to go through that little rite of passage. My cousin told me that she had to drop out of nursing school for similar reasons.

That just about covers it, not a nice thing to write about but with your humorous ending. OK

Sounds about perfect to me! I do like frogs, though, up to a certain point. (point, get it? hahahahaha)

My sentiments exactly. I could never cut and paste on living things, and especially not a frog. Ugh. John
