What A Mess

Inspired by highchair hi jinks.

 WHAT A MESS

She spilled her milk on the floor,

And had jelly in her hair.

Down the front of her shirt,

Was the juice from a pear.

She had mashed potatoes,

Shoved in each ear.

And with peas up her nose,

She couldn’t smell or hear.

Her fingers are greasy and grimy,

And she wipes them on her clothes.

It’s clearly evident on her pants,

Where every handprint shows.

There was corn on her cheeks,

And applesauce on her chin,

Her area looked like a dumpster,

That was being lived in.

She just dropped her jello,

And it landed with a plop.

When she gets done eating,

You need a shovel, broom and mop.

Both her and the kitchen,

May never again be clean.

She has to be the messiest eater,

That I have ever seen.

Aren't grandkids fun? I had to laugh as I read because you are describing what it's like when I eat. We often pick up delectables from the floor and I eat them because "they are starving in India" and we don't like to see food go to waste. Just my waist. ;-)

When talking to my 98-year-old uncle, I guess he was trying to shock me, when he said that my twin and I, upon a visit to his home, smeared mashed potatoes and gravy on their pristine dining room wall and "Your mother didn't even seem to notice." In a way, I'm glad he finally got that off his chest after all those years.

Oh, how children love to do it their own way and could care less about the drips and drabs. Enjoyed the poem for its infinite detail so true to life. John

If my kids had done that I would've had a meltdown. Now I have a messy dog. I guess I deserve that.
