I wrote this poem for my granddaughter on her last birthday. Readers probably fully understand it, but she loved the memories.

TO TRINITY ON YOUR 14TH BIRTHDAY

When you were just a baby,

You’d cry when left alone.

But soon you were old enough,

To sing with grandpa on the phone.

    (Twinkle Twinkle Little Star)

But you didn’t stop there,

You grew a little more.

You insisted on carrying the popcorn,

And then spilled it on the floor.

I’ll never forget the first time,

You jumped into the pool.

You learned how to swim that day,

It was awesome and cool.

And all the makeovers I endured,

While you practiced on my face.

And the medi pedi’s with full shampoos,

Done with your style and grace.

The day you fit under the bathroom sink,

Now that was quite a scene.

And the day you thought you were using goat’s milk,

I swear you turned three shades of green.

Now all of a sudden your 14 years old.

How did that come to be?

You’ve gone from Trin Bob Pokey Pants,

To being a beautiful young lady.

So Happy Birthday Trinity,

I hope your day’s filled with fun.

Blow out the candles and make a wish,

The good times have just begun.

Love, G-Pa Schafer

Your granddaughter is so fortunate to have a grandfather in her life that has such a wonderful sense of humor. And I know she will cherish this poem for the rest of her life.
