A Tribute To - How Do I Love Thee

She could never have known us
Had no way to know the depth
Of our love to burn for decades

We shall forgive since her life
Bloomed over one hundred fifty
Years before we began our day

Writing How Do I Love Thee
Covered the subject admirably
In her time and place in the sun

But Betty Browning wrote in a
Language delicately different
Giving love's words immortality

In our years together I willingly
Wrote and said heartfelt words
Of passion and fidelity for you

It is enough that we still have
those simple words given to us

The immortal Elzabeth Barret Browning. Thank you Bill for this wonderful tribute to a wonderful woman, who wrote of love, pain, and sorrow.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning would be proud of your tribute. She was, indeed, a gifted writer and her love for her husband played out so beautifully in her poetry. Thankfully, the words of poets never fade and the well written works live on forever for generations of lovers to enjoy.

holy smokes! Bill my dear friend, this is outstanding! It is one of the all time best tributes to one of the Greats who still touch us today. Your use of tercets for the construction added to the beauty of this piece, but I have to tell you the thing that really made this pop for me was the third tercet, in which you call her Betty...that delightful touch made this poem extraordinary in its intimacy...an honest expression of respect and love. Bill, this is one of your best.
