For weeks, life has been far too SWEET !
I believe it's time for a tad of dark, or sour, poetry. Here's my contribution.........
Visitor's Day
It had been way too long since
he dropped by to
leave the alimony cash
and once more to
charm her into their old bed
It made her feel as if
he bought her each time
instead of leaving support dollars for
the two children
In a bazaar way she always gave in
when he moved to take her
Besides they were always careful
and she wanted his tender warm
But afterward damn him
he wouldn't agree to
wait and visit with his girls
when they came in from school
That always reminded her of
why she divorced him in the first place
It is a sad fact that this is all too often the case. Not only ex husbands coming back to seduce ex wifes but also ex wifes coming back to old familiar ground even though they have found new partners. Maybe it is the feeling of safety of comfort hard to say but you captured it pretty well here.
