At a Party with You

It keeps grating my smooth side
the necessity of having a party to
celebrate a date a time a person
Too often I am rebellious when
parties are strained like a bad
second act weakening the play
A good party is a living thing
one well planned for and fed
toward a satisfying perfection
At a party with you years ago
I recall how dreadful it was until
you asked the hosts if a guest
might be an accomplished
dancer and agree to teach
Unbelievably a young couple
beautiful and handsome took
over a dull party and turned
it into a dancing class with
laughs and deliberate mistakes
allow the shy and hesitant to
become joyful dance partners
Take it from me that one was
the best party ever not planned
